Our two work programs are European Integration Processes and Human Rights & Environment.
The European Integration Processes program currently has one priority issue: environmental dimension of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP). Our vision is that approximation of Eastern European countries to the European Union should bring maximum benefits for the protection of the environment and avoid decreasing quality of the current standards, policies and practice of environmental protection.
More specifically we see several areas to address through European Integration Processes program such as monitoring of ENP’s implementation, assessments of bilateral actions plans and their implementation, raising NGO’s capacity to deal with ENP-related issues, including ENPI.
The Human Rights and Environment program brings together three related priority issues: national environmental policies research, promotion of implementation of and compliance with multilateral environmental agreements, and assessment of national environmental case-law and practice.
National environmental policies research aims to assess and identify gaps and problems in national environmental protection systems and policies in Ukraine and regionally through specific studies and assessments.
We see promotion of the implementation of multilateral environmental agreements as an important element for the improvement of environmental practice and policies. We currently focus on two such agreements: Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-Making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters and Espoo Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context. We will work both on country and pan-European levels (especially through European Eco Forum network).
We see monitoring and assessment of national environmental case-law and practice to be a strong basis for identifying key problems areas and solutions in environmental protection.
